The Universal Martial Arts Institute (UMI) was founded in 1989 by Grandmaster Ik Hwan Kim. It is made up of two divisions: Universal Taekwondo Federation (UTF) and Universal Hapkido Federation (UHF).
Universal Hapkido Federation (UHF):
Grandmaster Kim was the first instructor to teach a dual curriculum by offering both Taekwondo and Hapkido within one school. He began teaching these two forms of martial arts in 1975 in Korea, and expanded them to the United States in 1981. By modifying the traditional style of Hapkido, their techniques can be applied to modern day situations. By doing this, Grandmaster Kim has provided anyone with the ability to learn this practical form of martial arts. We welcome and encourage instructors from any martial arts background to join our organization or open a school of their own. |
